Mare of Easttown (Sky Atlantic) – Mon 19 April
Kate Winslet is taking her considerable talents to the small screen for this highly anticipated seven-part crime drama based in small-town Pennsylvania, where she plays Mare Sheehan, a detective investigating a local murder while also trying to keep her shambolic life on track. The Radio Times labelled it “high end telly at its best” so miss it at your peril.
Unhinged (Sky Cinema) – Fri 23 April
Russell Crowe is tapping up his psychotic side with this portrayal of a man with the ultimate case of road rage. His target is Caren Pistorious (who stared in 2015’s Slow West with Michael Fassbender) and her young son who have to find a way to outwit and outrun the stranger who has taken against them in a really big way. You’ll never honk at a bad driver again.
Stowaway (Netflix) – Thurs 22 April
Muddy favourites Anna Kendrick and Toni Collette star in this Netflix Original full length sci-fi thriller where a three-man mission to Mars suddenly is in danger of becoming a four-man tragedy when an accidental stowaway is found on board. With resources dwindling, there are some tough decisions to make and time is running out…
Shadow and Bone (Netflix) – Fri 23 April
This is being framed as the new Game of Thrones and suitable amounts of money has been pumped into this Netflix Original fantasy genre series based on the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. Upcoming Brit actress Jesse Mei Li plays Alina Starkov, an orphan and soldier who finds herself in possession of magic powers and pitted against dark forces.
Lucy, the Human Chimp (C4) – Mon 19 April
This is an unbelievable true story of a chimp, Lucy, who, as part of a psychology experiment, was raised as a human in 1960’s Oklahoma. When it became clear she was becoming too strong to be kept by a normal family, she was taken back to The Gambia to be reintroduced to the wild. Janis Carter was a young student who accompanied her and when it became clear Lucy was struggling, Janis decided to stay with her for six years instead of the expected two weeks on an uninhabited island. Here, Janis talks for the first time about her experiences.

Secret of the Whales (Disney +) – Thurs 22 April
With Sigourney Weaver narrating and James Cameron as executive producer, you would be safe to assume a level of quality with this four-part documentary that brings together three years of incredible footage, following whales families around 24 locations in the world’s oceans. It explores the whale cultures and family bonds of orcas, humpbacks, belugas, narwhals and sperm whales. Fascinating stuff.
